Saving our Sanity (SOS) Parent Support Group
Dialectical Behavior Therapy was originally developed to work with Borderline Personality Disorder. The great thing is that it is such a flexible therapy that with limited modifications, it was found that the skills acquired were really helpful for people with ADHD, Autism, Addictive Disorders, Anxiety, Depression, and countless other mental health challenges. While this series is specifically designed for parental caregivers, we will look at some practical skills for the entire family.
Week Five: Distress Tolerance: This week, we will look at tools to manage those moments when circumstances thrust us into distress, overwhelm and overload. What do we do to prevent flipping our lid when circumstances are spicy?
The group is facilitated by Laura Beth DeHority, LMFT, parent to special needs young adults, and former corporate communicator. Her goal is to establish practical skills to lower parental stress in a time period unlike any other.
