DESCRIPTION:When: Saturday\, June 20\, 11am -1pm\nWhere: We meet at the Bay Model Visitor Center\, 2100 Bridgeway\, Sausalito\, CA 94965. After touring the model we walk south to Sausalito for a bite and then walk back.\nWhat: The Bay Model is the world’s largest working model of San Francisco Bay. The fully-accessible education center administered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Session 2: 2.30-4pm \nJUNE 21st \nWhere: \nAnT Swim School \n520 West Virginia Street \nSan Jose\, CA 95125 \n(Just off Hwy 280 and Bird\, near Willow Glen) \nThis address is the Gardner Community Center\, the pool is actually down the block toward Delmas\, just past the park playground. \nStreet parking is available. Per City rules\, please do not park in the driveway of the swimschool. \nNo need to bring tickets\, we’ll have your name at the gate – please sign in. \nWhat to bring: \n\nSwimsuits/swimshirts\nSunscreen — applied 30 minutes before getting into pool\nHats\nTowels\nLounge chairs/beach chairs\, if desired (the venue has bench seating)\nPool toys\, if desired. Please note the pool’s insurance carrier prohibits inflatables😞.We will have noodles\, kickboards\, and foam floats\, balls and toys onhand.\nLifejackets for non-swimmers (the facility has youth sizes available to borrow)\nWe will provide some refreshments\, but if you have special diets please consider bringing your own. (We generally have snacks but not drinks).\nYour own filled water bottles.\n\nAbout the venue: \n\nThe AnT Swim School features a large pool with a concrete perimeter and some grassy areas and benches.\nThe pool is fairly warm\, shallow at both ends\, reaching a depth of 5 feet at the middle.\nLifeguards will be present\nStreet parking is available\, please do not block any driveways\nBathrooms onsite but they can get crowded – please change ahead of time or in the tents\nPublic park with play equipment is adjacent\nSwimdiapers: you can purchase pool-approved child-todder’s swim daiper (older child and adult swim diapers are not available) from AnT. SUMMARY:Self Compassion Support Group
DESCRIPTION:SFASA Self-Compassion Support Group for Parents and Caregivers of Kids with Autism and other Developmental Disorders \nSelf-compassion flows from the desire to alleviate our own suffering. Sometimes this requires tender acceptance — being with ourselves in all our glorious imperfections. At other times\, self-compassion isn’t soft or yielding—sometimes we need to be fierce\, stand up for ourselves\, or find the courage to forge a new path. This is especially true if you are a mama or papa bear caring for a child who is challenged by autism and/or other developmental disorders.  This series of support group sessions will provide you the opportunity to: \n\nidentify and embody the three components of self-compassion: kindness\, mindfulness (including mindful movement)\, and common humanity;\ndevelop skills for responding in a compassionate way whenever you or your child suffers;\nexplore the role of tender and fierce self-compassion;\npractice strategies to soothe and comfort yourself and your child in order to handle difficult emotions with greater ease\, but also to draw boundaries\, fight against injustice\, or motivate change;\nIdentify and self-reflect on your journey as a caregiver and find common humanity with others.\n\nWhere: On Zoom\nWho: Parents and Caregivers of ASD kids and related developmental disorders\nWhen: 7-9 p.m.\nFor questions:  Contact the group facilitator\, Sara Kole at: president@sfautismsociety.org\nor 408-242-2595 (M)
